Drupal Media Camp in Aarau, Switzerland
Ivica and I made a trip to Aarau, Switzerland. There was an interesting gathering of Drupal Community there, Drupal Media Camp from 8 to 9 of May. Impressions are very good; we also had a chance to talk again with some very nice people we met in DrupalCon 2008 in Szeged,
We also made some important new contacts for the future – some very interesting projects are coming to us (perhaps we must cancel our summer vacations a bit, but the possibilities are so exciting that we may well do that). We also got some important new info from Acquia (thanks, Jam!); there’ll be some changes in our business strategies – more on that in blogs that’ll come in the next couple of months.
Once again, we got impression that focusing our company on Drupal was an excellent choice. We are also pleased to see that technological level that we achieved in Drupal comes along with the very best in our local Drupal Community.
Focus of this DrupalCamp was of course the media and how to use Drupal in the context of providing media content (text, news, video, etc.) .
Several interesting presentation draw our attention:
Thomas Narres gave some clues about how to use news aggregation, MashUps and automated syndication together with some social sites, a tour-de-force of marketing possibilities through internet out of the box: http://drupalmediacamp.ch/session/fashionly-das-syndizierte-mashup-mit-automatisiertem-workflow-und-push-wie-pop
Florian Latzel gave a nice howto presentation on Drush, Drupal command line tool. We did not use it before; but we need to implement some relatively complex automated multi-site backup & clone strategies in projects to come… we will certainly give drush a try. http://drupalmediacamp.ch/session/drush-das-sackmesser-fuer-die-kommandozeile
If you did not already new something about ImageCache, this is a good place to start:http://drupalmediacamp.ch/session/imagecache-das-sackmesser-der-bildbearbeitung-0
And if you ask yourself how does it comes that Drupal is so easy to use in media industry, try this use case: http://drupalmediacamp.ch/session/radio-drs-das-portal
We also wish to express our gratitude to the people from local Swiss Drupal Community, especially to Miro Dietiker and Hagen Graf. Everything (including wlan) has functioned well… and (last but not least) coffee and sandwiches war always available:
And now, some nice impression of the Camp:
